Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) is a technique by which law enforcement compares composite photos from a pre-arranged database to photos or video stills gathered in the course of an investigation. The database contains millions of images including, driver’s license photos, mug shots and even social media photos. FRT has become a hot button issue in Metro Detroit as the debate continues on its use by the Detroit Police Department. Additionally, Governor Whitmer recently signed a bill to fund initiatives to increase the speed and accuracy of the technology.
